  • Mount Fuji
  • Fuji is the highest mountain in Japan and a symbol of Japan. While other high mountains are often located in mountain ranges, Fuji is a solo peak. Fuji's heavenly height stands out even more because there are no other mountains around, creating a divine atmosphere.
Since ancient times, Japanese people sensed close to the beauty, mysterious and harshness of nature and worshiped it. The spirit of Japanese people to sense mysterious for everything around us including mountains, forests, trees, water falls and rivers roots our dairy life and way of thinking even now. Therefore, Mt. Fuji is also an object of mountain worship, and there is a shrine dedicated to the deity at the mountaintop.

Fuji is located between Shizuoka and Yamanashi prefectures. People from Shizuoka Prefecture say it's more beautiful when viewed from the Shizuoka Prefecture side, and people from Yamanashi Prefecture say it's more beautiful when viewed from the Yamanashi Prefecture side, but this is one of the themes where no conclusion can be drawn because it's always beautiful no matter which side you look at it from.
Mt. Fuji is high and there are few obstacles around it, so even from far away Tokyo, there are places where you can see Mt. Fuji from slightly higher hills. Such places are often given the place name Fuji-mi, "mi" mean see in Japanese.

Fuji covered with snow in winter is really beautiful, but Fuji is an active volcano and is in danger of erupting. It has erupted many times in the past, causing damage to surrounding towns. This gives us a sense of awe and respect for the threat that lies within its beauty, and perhaps this is one of the reasons why we feel special about Fuji.
