Kawarabato | Rock Dove

dove

Rock Doves are commonplace in the city, but they are not to be underestimated. Because of their high homing instincts, Rock Doves have been used as a means of communication for many years, and carrier pigeons bred for communication have been used by newspaper companies and the military.
Rock Doves are always to be found in parks and in front of train stations, but they are not native to Japan and are thought to have been brought to Japan around the Asuka Period. Doves can breed throughout the year, so they may have increased to this extent.
