  • There are more than 1,200 species of weevils in Japan alone and more than 60,000 species in the world, forming a large and diverse group. Many species have a mouth at the end of their long snout (which is not exactly a snout), and they use the tip of their mouth to make holes in plants and lay eggs there to ensure the growth of their larvae. It may be no exaggeration to say that weevils, which have adapted to various plants and evolved to have so many species, are the winners in the struggle for survival.
Although it has a small body, its exoskeleton is very hard, and when attacked by an enemy, it often pretends to be dead.
