  • When I take a walk in a park or forest in autumn, there are many acorns. When I find a beautiful one, I just have to pick it up. It looks cute like wearing a beret.
Acorns are a valuable food source for animals living in the forest before winter, and amount of acorns they produce is very important to the animals. When acorns ripen, squirrels and mice bury them in the ground and busily prepare for winter. They eat stored acorns during winter when food is scarce, but they sometimes forget where acorns are buried. However, the acorns forgotten by the squirrels germinate in the spring and begin to grow new life. Acorns are too heavy to send seeds far, but with the help of animals, they can be carried a little farther from the parent tree, thereby gradually expanding their growing area.
